Today, April 8, Shaun Bailey MP for Wednesbury, Oldbury and Tipton was able to secure a temporary delay to the removal of a memorial in a Tipton Park to Lewis Williams, who tragically died last year at the age of 16.
Following a petition organised by a family friend, which has reached over 1,600 signatures since launching yesterday, Shaun was able to liaise with Sandwell Council to delay the removal of the memorial. The Council will now talk further with Lewis' family to find a suitable place for a permanent memorial, and Shaun will support the family in this endeavour.
Shaun has said, "The loss of any life is tragic, but one so young is particularly awful. My sympathies go out to his family and friends, and I am confident we will be able to resolve this matter to the satisfaction of everyone."
The whole community must be involved in this sensitive matter. Shaun is aware of reports of anti-social behaviour in the park and is actively working to combat this. Since his election, Shaun has campaigned against anti-social behaviour and will continue to monitor developments across Farley Park and Great Bridge.
