Shaun Bailey, MP for Wednesbury, Oldbury and Tipton, has today welcomed a new podcast and short story by Historic England celebrating Wednebsury's clock tower. Civic pride is a core part of Wednesbury's identity, and Shaun Bailey MP has campaigned for the unique Black Country identity to be recognised across the country.
The short story by Maria Whatton, 'Flying', will be released next Wednesday (24th March 2021). 'Flying' will be set in Wednesbury and looks at the iconic clock tower through the teenager, Lily May's, eyes.
This story forms a part of the £7.4 million Cultural Programme led by Historic England with Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund contributing.
The wider High Streets Heritage Action Zone scheme recently allocated £1.8 million to Wednesbury. This funding will be used for streetscape advancement and to uplift surrounding historic buildings.
This story will allow readers and listeners to explore the town's heritage is welcomed by Shaun, and he hopes it will help renew outside interest in the town.
