On Tuesday 12 October, Shaun Bailey MP joined Donna Adams-Allen, a Funding Officer from the National Lottery Community Fund to present a cheque for £179,520 to Tipton-based WMA Community Fitness Centre.
WMA Community Fitness Centre is a Charity currently based in Tipton Shopping Centre. The centre is home to three units; Bushi Jutsu Ryu Martial Arts, led by Craige Thompson; Time Step Dance Studio, led by Vicky Parkinson; and the function space, led by Katie Hitch. These units run sessions including: play and stay groups, sensory sessions, dance, drama, martial arts, gymnastics, and many more free or low cost activities.
The team behind the WMA aim to revitalise the local community and give people the opportunity to participate in sessions they may not otherwise have access to.
WMA is using the funding to employ part-time workers to support the volunteers currently in place, alongside the introduction of a qualified Childcare worker to give Parents a break during stay-and-play.
Shaun is very grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for providing the funding, and he hopes that more groups across Wednesbury, Oldbury, and Tipton will be successful in their applications. Shaun also participated in Katie Hitch's Sit-Up Challenge (pictured), where Katie has been doing 100 Sit-Ups a day alongside various Community members across Tipton and the wider Borough to raise money for Shelter, the homeless charity.
