The Finance Bill Committee
Over the last week I have been sat on the Finance Bill committee.
Each year the Chancellor of the Exchequer presents the national budget to parliament. This comprises of a statement by the Chancellor on economic and fiscal policy, setting out major tax and spending decisions.
The Finance Bill Committee comprises a small group of MPs who look at parts of the budget, line by line, to provide a higher level of detailed scrutiny than it would receive in the House of Commons Chamber.
I am very supportive of the budget this year, with it funding:
- 20 million pounds of funding for Tipton town centre and Owen Street.
- 30 hours of childcare a week to working parents of children aged nine months to four years.
- The extension of the Energy Price Guarantee for three months.
- The freezing fuel duty for a thirteenth year, saving the average driver around £200.
- A Brexit Pub Guarantee so draught duty will always be less than duty in supermarkets.
